A Discourse on the Meaning of Knowledge in Art and Design Research

Kristina Niedderer PhD MA (RCA) is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the  Faculty for the Creative and Cultural Industries at the University of Hertfordshire, UK, where she is leading the Experiential Knowledge Project and the Experiential Knowledge Conference 2007. Kristina is a design researcher and craft practitioner. She was originally apprenticed as a goldsmith and silversmith and worked as a journey (wo)man with Ulla and Martin Kaufmann in Germany. She then trained as a designer and design researcher in the UK, with an MA (RCA) and a PhD in Design. Kristina has experience as a reviewer and co-editor for conferences and journals, as a PhD supervisor, and as a lecturer on research issues at various European universities including the use of design practice in PhD research.Her research interests range across: conceptual and philosophical issues in craft and design; fundamental principles and practices of using practice within research; the nature and role of knowledge in research and practice; research education.
